VIJAY
J. SHAH
A native of Bombay, India,
Vijay attended The Modern School and St. Xavier’s College, both in Bombay,
India. Mr. Shah arrived in America in
1958 and received his BS in 1962 and MS in 1965 from the Alfred P. Sloan School
of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and participated on the 45th
Reunion Committee, 1962. His Master’s
thesis, Deferred Pension or Profit
Sharing, led naturally to a career in business and personal financial and
estate planning. Mr. Shah is a brother
of Pi Lambda Phi and is recognized by MIT’s William Barton Rogers Society as an
annual donor.
Shortly after completing
his studies at MIT, Vijay formed his own business, V. J. Shah & Co., Inc., incorporating
in 1969. After nearly 40 years as his
own broker-dealer, Vijay J. Shah became affiliated with the prestigious
national independent brokerage firm LPL FINANCIAL, Member FINRA/SIPC, providing
its clients with a complete range of investment products.
V. J. Shah & Co., Inc.
has been a participant in several syndicates bringing out the public stock of
converted Massachusetts banks. Mr. Shah
has also invested in several venture capital partnerships, among them, ALTA III
and ALTA IV, both managed by Burr, Egan & Deleage & Co. Over the years, Vijay has been an Angel
investor in numerous organizations such as:
Aspect Medical Systems, Inc.; Woodlist.com, Inc.; MooBella; and more
recently Vivace Semiconductor, Bridge Street Toys, and LoraxAG, LLC (fka as Green Coal Advisors). Mr. Shah maintains a significant shareholder position
in Pebble
Creek Mining Ltd., of Canada, which has mining operations in his native country,
India.
Vijay Shah has been
engaged in providing complete financial services to a high net-worth clientele
comprised essentially of professionals and entrepreneurs. In addition to his American interests, Vijay
is a frequent visitor to Switzerland and India, maintaining strong
international ties to each country’s business and investing communities, and most
recently Moscow, Russia.
Mr. Shah is a Registered
Principal with, and securities are offered through, LPL FINANCIAL, member
FINRA/SIPC. Through this affiliation
with LPL FINANCIAL, clients are able to invest in debt and equity
securities. Vijay has also specialized
in the design and administration of employee benefit programs, including
qualified retirement plans.
Individual life and health
insurance and full group insurance coverage are made available to clients
through The Shah Agency and Agents Service Insurance Agency, Inc. Mr. Shah is a broker for numerous life
insurance companies and is a retired general agent of Principal Financial Group
and Transamerica Life.
Professionally, Vijay
continued his education by completing the requirements of the American College
for the Chartered Life Underwriter and Chartered Financial Consultant
designations. He is a member of the
Association for Advanced Life Underwriting and has participated in numerous
discussion panels before professional groups, contributing to various legal
seminars in the areas of his expertise.
In 2009, Mr. Shah became a
member of the Rotary Club of Wellesley.
Vijay sat on the Advisory Board of Benjamin Franklin Bank until it was
sold to Rockland Trust and was a Founding Member of Boston Foundation for Sight
India, a charitable trust in Mumbai, India.
An ardent tennis player
and downhill skier, and an occasional golfer, Vijay is a member of the Hazel
Hotchkiss Wightman Tennis Center in Weston, MA and Brae Burn Country Club in
Newton, MA.
